Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc

Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

Have served an apprentiship of not less than four years and qualified as a Plumber as recognised by the Irish Standards Authority FAS.

(Additional points will be awarded to candidates that have attained relevant additional qualifications);

1. Possess a Qualifications Ireland (QQI) Level 6 (or higher)

    Advanced Certificate Craft - Plumbing

Or

2. Possess the National Craft Certificate issued by FETAC

Or

3. Possess a Level 3 Technical/Trade qualification or equivalent issued by City & Guilds,

Or

4. Possess the Senior Trade Certificate issued by the Department of Education

And

Candidates must possess the requisite technical knowledge and ability, including a high standard of suitability for the proper discharge of the office.

2. Age

Age restriction shall only apply to a candidate where s/he is not classified as a new

entrant (within the meaning of the Public Service Superannuation (Miscellaneous

Provisions) Act, 2004). A candidate who is not classified as a new entrant must be under 65 years of age on the first day of the month in which the latest date for receiving completed application forms for the office occurs.

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements

• As this post may involve the driving of HSE owned vehicles, the successful candidate is required to hold a full unendorsed Drivers Licence (Category B).

Other requirements specific to the post 

• Due to the nature of the business of a hospital, some of the works will be conducted out doors / on roofs etc and in difficult weather conditions. The Carpenter will be required to work in all weather conditions when requested to do so or circumstances dictate.
• Some overtime will be required to be performed periodically and candidates will be required to perform overtime when requested.
• To carry a bleep (issued by the Hospital) and / or mobile phone (personal) for use during working hours and after hours when on-call.
• To carry a mobile communication device for work allocations and reporting such as a computer tablet
• The Plumber Fitter will be required to participate in emergency call outs. Candidates should live within a reasonable travel time of Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown such that emergencies can be responded to within a reasonable period of time and have access to appropriate transport to fulfil the requirements of the role.
