Overview

To assist with the delivery of patient care under the supervision and direction of Nursing or other Professional Staff.

Details of Service 

The HSE has created six new health regions. Each region is responsible for providing both hospital and community care for the people in that area. Bringing community health services and hospitals together means we can take a more patient-centred approach to healthcare.

HSE Dublin and North East region which provides health and social care to North Dublin, Louth, Meath, Monaghan and most areas of Cavan. Connolly Hospital is situated within the North Dublin area of the region.

 

Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown is a model 3* major teaching hospital providing a range of acute services including:

  • acute medical in-patient services
  • elective surgery
  • 24 hour emergency care
  • acute psychiatric services
  • intensive care
  • diagnostic and support services
  • outpatient care

Multi-disciplinary teams representative of medical, nursing, allied health professionals, management, administration and general support staff play a pivotal role in the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of these services.

The hospital is affiliated to the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) for medical education, to Dublin City University (DCU) for nursing education and to University College Dublin (UCD), Trinity College Dublin (TCD) and the Institute of Technology for allied health professional education.

Essential Criteria

Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.

    Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience etc

 

 (a) Candidates must have at the closing date for receipt of applications:

 

  • Possess a relevant* Health Skills qualification as outlined in the Quality and qualifications Ireland (QQI) formerly FETAC on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) of not less the QQI Level 5 (See note* below)

OR

  • Possess an equivalent Healthcare Qualification at not less than QQI level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) (See note* below)

OR

 

  • Be currently undertaking a relevant Health Skills QQI Level 5 qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) with commitment to complete the appropriate health skills QQI Level 5 qualification within 2 years of taking up post.

 

OR

  • Be currently employed as a Health Care Assistant, Care Assistant, Attendant, Multi-Task Attendant or in a comparable role for at least 2 years and give an undertaking to acquire Health Skills qualification at not less than QQI Level 5 programme on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) within 2 years of taking up post

 

AND

(b) Candidates must have the personal competence and capacity to properly discharge the duties of the role.

 

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

 

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

 

*Note

With regard to Criterion (i), the listing below has been identified as what is considered relevant QQI (formerly FETAC) Level 5* Major Award in Healthcare qualifications.

 

  • QQI Level 5 Healthcare Support
  • QQI Level 5 Nursing Studies
  • QQI Level 5 Community Care
  • QQI Level 5 Health Service Skills
  • QQI Level 5 Community Health Services.

*A full QQI/FETAC 5 Major award requires a minimum of 120 credits/8 modules – please note component certificate will not suffice.

 

With regard to Criterion (ii), a relevant Healthcare qualification at not less than

QQI Level 5 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) is considered

with applied patient care modules/placements typically but not limited to

qualifications in: Social Care Work, Nursing, Therapy Professions etc.

 

Post Specific Requiremetns

The following point may be used for the purpose of shortlisting, therefore, it is important that your application clearly demonstrates how your knowledge and experience meets both the eligibility and post specific points.

 

  • Demonstrate your depth and breadth of experience working in an acute setting in Ireland.
