The post of Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (IPC) is a pivotal role in service planning, co-ordinating, and managing activity and resources within the clinical area.
The main responsibilities are
• Planning, implementing, and evaluating infection control policies and procedures.
• Oversee surveillance systems for tracking infection rates, outbreaks, and compliance with national/international standards
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (physicians, nursing staff, environmental services, quality & safety) to embed infection prevention principles throughout the organization.
• Develop, update, and monitor infection prevention protocols (e.g., hand hygiene, isolation precautions, PPE use)
The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (IPC) is also responsible for quality assurance, people management, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional / clinical leadership.
The Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (IPC) will deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the Framework for the Establishment of Clinical Nurse/Midwife Specialist Posts, 4th edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008

Each candidate must, at the latest date for receipt of completed applications for the post possess:
1a. Professional Qualifications & Experience
(i) Are registered in the relevant Division of the Register of Nurses kept by An Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) or be entitled to be so registered
And
(ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience (or an aggregate of 5 years post registration full time experience) of which 2 post registration full time experience (or an aggregate of 2 years post registration full time experience) must be in the specialty area or related area
And
(iii) Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role
And
(iv) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of Continuing Professional Development
And
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a shigh standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
2. Annual Registration
(i) On appointment, Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Board Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann).
And
(ii) Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the HSE by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
3. Health
A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
4. Character
Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Post Specific Requirements:
Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience and knowledge in infection, prevention and control.
